Local students can receive up to $10,000 for creative projects that address how to reduce emissions and fight climate change
Sunnyvale, Calif. – Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) invites students from local elementary, middle, and high schools, and community colleges to submit their creative ideas on spreading awareness about the benefits of clean energy and how it can be used to reduce emissions with an opportunity to have their projects funded up to $10,000.
Students, with a school club, class, or individual research project, may submit their projects that explore the topics of decarbonization, electrification, and/or innovation in response to climate change.
“The youth are the future of climate action and the SVCE Education Fund is a great opportunity for these motivated students to realize their vision,” said George Tyson, Los Altos Hills Councilmember and SVCE Board Chair. “We hope to see student-led projects that tackle local and global challenges in innovative and inclusive ways.”
To be eligible for the grant, students must be currently enrolled in an elementary, middle, high school, or accredited community college in one of the 13 SVCE member communities. Students must include a detailed scope of their proposal, a timeline, plans for community outreach, and an estimated budget to be considered. The proposal must also incorporate the SVCE mission to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, whether it be through electrification, innovation, decarbonization, or another creative alternative.
Previous students led sustainability conferences, launched biking initiatives at their schools, explored advancements to hybrid car batteries, and much more.
Students may apply online or through a printed application which can be mailed to Silicon Valley Clean Energy. Applications will close Friday, January 19 at 11:59 p.m.
This fund is in its fourth year and is part of a continuous initiative to support community education and engagement with local efforts to improve air quality, health, and safety by reducing the use of fossil fuels. Students who are selected to participate in the Education Fund will be featured on the SVCE website, and social media platforms and will be inducted into the community of previous recipients.
