200 MW solar and 200 MWh battery storage begins delivery
Monterey and Sunnyvale, Calif.– Central Coast Community Energy (3CE) and Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) announce the commercial online delivery of Victory Pass, a large-scale solar and battery energy storage project on March 28, 2024.
The Victory Pass solar and storage facility, developed by Clearway Energy Group, is located in Riverside County with 200-megawatt (MW) generation capacity and 200-megawatt hour (MWh) battery storage. The Community Choice Aggregators (CCAs) each receive 100 MW of solar generation and 100 MWh of battery storage under 15-year agreements.
“The Victory Pass project shows the power of CCA partnerships to make progress toward our mission of bringing 100% clean and renewable energy to our communities,” said Robert Shaw, Central Coast Community Energy Chief Executive Officer. “The solar energy from Victory Pass will serve nearly 16% of 3CE’s load and power approximately 75,000 of our customers’ homes, while the added storage capacity will make the grid cleaner and more reliable.”
“The SVCE Board of Directors has prioritized clean, renewable and reliable power sources, with an emphasis on new projects that will increase clean capacity for many years to come,” said Monica Padilla, SVCE CEO. “Victory Pass is the eighth long-term project to come online for SVCE customers, helping us deliver on our commitment to our communities and support the state-wide movement to a clean energy future for all.”
The renewable energy generated by the Victory Pass project contributes towards the CCAs’ renewable portfolio standards and the battery provides clean capacity to help meet resource adequacy needs.
The Victory Pass project generates enough renewable electricity to power nearly 90,000 homes. The project represents a $434 million investment in Riverside County, 350 union jobs while in construction, with permanent workforce need throughout operations.
To date, 3CE and SVCE have signed 12 joint power purchase agreements, totaling 1,513 MW of clean energy and 316 MW of storage.
