Changes Coming to GreenPrime in 2024
GreenPrime is the 100% renewable product offered by SVCE. Over the last seven years, the landscape for purchasing carbon-free and renewable power changed dramatically. As a result, the SVCE Board of Directors voted to revise the GreenPrime price premium and product offering for 2024.
The details below outline the changes that are coming to the GreenPrime product
in January 2024.
The GreenPrime premium will increase to $0.015/kWh for all customers. This increase reflects the true cost of the 100% renewable products that make up the GreenPrime power mix and will take effect at the beginning of January – February 2024 billing cycles.
The average household using GreenPrime electricity historically paid between $3 – $5 more on their electricity bill every month. With the increase, this average will now be $6 – $10.
No. GreenPrime will remain a 100% renewable power mix sourced from wind and solar with zero to near-zero emissions.
Beginning in 2024, SVCE’s GreenPrime product will no longer be sourced with Green-e® Energy certified Renewable Energy Credits (RECs). Instead, there will be an annual independent audit of GreenPrime RECs retirements to ensure the product’s 100% renewable content. GreenPrime customers will continue to receive reports on their GreenPrime electricity via the annual Power Content Label and WREGIS.
The current landscape for short-term procurement of carbon-free and renewable power has changed dramatically. Recent prices for such carbon-free energy products have increased 1500% and renewable energy credit prices are up 500%.
