Silicon Valley Clean Energy Board Appoints Chair and Vice Chair for 2025

Los Altos Hills and Sunnyvale representatives elected as Board leadership

Sunnyvale, CAThe Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) Board of Directors recently elected the 2025 Chair and Vice Chair to one-year terms. Los Altos Hills Councilmember George Tyson (left) will serve as Chair and Sunnyvale Mayor Larry Klein (right) will serve as Vice Chair.   

George Tyson was appointed to the SVCE Board of Directors in 2019, served as Chair in 2023, and Vice Chair in 2022 and 2024. During his time on the SVCE board, Chair Tyson sat on the Executive Committee and the CEO Search and Transition Ad Hoc Committee. As Vice Chair in 2024, he supported several key initiatives, including new long-term clean targets, SVCE’s first local long-term renewable project, “Glossy Garlic,” and the third SVCE prepay bond which will result in millions of dollars of savings that are passed on to customers in the form of stable rates.  

Tyson was elected to the Los Altos Hills city council in 2018; he served as Mayor in 2022.  

“I’m so proud of what the SVCE organization has accomplished; and as Chair, I will prioritize continuity and growth as we look forward,” said Chair Tyson. “I’m committed to working with SVCE staff and leadership toward our mission of maintaining affordable and reliable clean energy.”  

Vice Chair Klein joined the SVCE Board of Directors as an Alternate Director in 2021 and has served as a primary director since 2022. Klein served as Chair of the SVCE Executive Committee in 2024 and participated on the committee in 2023.  

Klein was elected to the Sunnyvale City Council in 2016 and has served the last six years as Mayor. 

“SVCE has the depth and technical expertise to continue leading our communities towards a healthier, safer, and more efficient future,” said Vice Chair Klein. “As Vice Chair, I am excited to continue the valuable and necessary collaboration between the board, SVCE leadership, and the community we serve.” 

As a public agency, SVCE is governed by a board of directors comprised of one elected representative from each of its thirteen member communities.
