Kris Van Vactor Selected as Director of Power Resources at Silicon Valley Clean Energy

New leadership for the dynamic power resources team

Sunnyvale, Calif. – Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) recently announced new leadership for the organization’s experienced power resources team. Kris Van Vactor was promoted to Director of Power Resources. Van Vactor joined SVCE in 2022 and was previously the Wholesale Energy Markets Manager. Kris will replace Monica Padilla, current COO and Director of Power Resources, as she will begin her new role as CEO on April 1.

As director of the department, Van Vactor will work closely with the CEO and lead the agency’s energy and capacity procurement efforts; ensuring that SVCE is on track to achieve its carbon reduction goals and meet California’s legislative and regulatory requirements.

In his previous role at SVCE, Van Vactor managed SVCE resources within the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) to ensure optimal value of the agency’s growing fleet of clean energy and storage resources. Van Vactor also led efforts to procure clean energy and reliability products in the short to mid-term timeline.

“The SVCE Board of Directors has set aggressive clean energy targets, and we have the skilled team to help us reach them,” said Van Vactor. “I am excited to lead the team and continue working closely with our board to ensure we are procuring and operating a clean, affordable and reliable power portfolio.”

Van Vactor has over 20 years of experience in energy consulting, reporting, and procurement, including over 13 years at Southern California Edison. He brings his expertise in supporting real-time and day-ahead scheduling, short-term planning and settlements operations, and overall knowledge of the wholesale energy industry, to his work at SVCE.

“It’s been an honor to lead the power resources team over the past five years,” said Monica Padilla, incoming CEO. “As I transition roles, I have no doubt that Kris will continue to advance our clean power portfolio and explore innovative ways we can support grid-wide resilience in an affordable and sustainable manner.”

To date, SVCE has signed over 20 power purchase agreements and committed over $3.6 billion for nearly 1.5 GW of clean energy sources and battery storage; learn more at www.svcleanenergy.org/power-sources/
