Santa Clara County Students Receive Scholarships from SV Clean Energy Art Competition

$7,500 awarded to students for artistic interpretations of “Powering Communities” theme

Sunnyvale, Calif. Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) awarded $7,500 in scholarships to local Santa Clara County students for creative submissions to the annual EmPower Silicon Valley Scholarship Competition. This year, eleven elementary and high school students from seven local communities were recognized for their art pieces promoting the benefits of clean energy.

Students submitted imaginative sticker designs for upcoming community events and thoughtful artwork to be displayed in the future SVCE office in downtown Sunnyvale. Winning pieces demonstrated the theme of “Powering Communities: How choosing clean energy together makes communities healthier and stronger.” An SVCE staff panel judged submissions.

“SVCE is always exploring creative ways to engage and educate the youth on the clean energy transition and benefits to their communities,” said SVCE Board Chair Larry Klein. “This year, students have the unique opportunity to see their art featured in the SVCE office or at community events. Seeing themselves as clean energy messengers and champions is a great way for students to get involved in climate and sustainability initiatives.”

Five prizes of $1,250 were awarded in the high school category. These submissions demonstrated outstanding connection to the prompt and creative messaging:
