Electric Vehicle Charger Funding Available for Multifamily Properties

SV Clean Energy opens applications

Sunnyvale, Calif. – SVCE is committing $1.4 million in the form of technical and financial assistance to increase charger accessibility and support the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) at multifamily properties. Multifamily properties that are customers of Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) can receive up to $45,000 for EV charger installations.

Properties with four or more units are eligible for $40,000 or up to 75% of the project costs for installing Level 1 and Level 2 EV chargers. Affordable housing properties can receive additional funding, up to $45,000 or 100% of the total project costs.

Applying properties must complete the SVCE FutureFit Assist Program prior to receiving installation funding. The FutureFit Assist Program provides free technical assistance for site evaluation and will help properties assess the best EV charging for their site before the installation process begins.

“Offering EV charging access to our residents allows us to attract a wider range of renters and meet the growing demands of our community,” said Deborah Vasquez, Property Manager at Sunshine Gardens. “Through the EV Assist program, we identified the best EV charging structure for our property, and are excited that SVCE has decided to further invest in our residents by providing installation financing.”

California is the first U.S. state to register over 1 million EVs and has targeted a state-wide EV adoption goal of 5 million EVs by 2030. To support an equitable transition to carbon-free mobility, EV charging infrastructure needs to meet growing demand and be broadly accessible.

“Multifamily residents in particular face greater barriers to accessing convenient and affordable home charging, one of the most important factors in the decision to drive electric,” said Liz Gibbons, SVCE Board Chair and City of Campbell Councilmember. “We need to support all residents in the transition to clean, electric living and we hope that in providing technical and financial assistance, local property owners will take advantage of this opportunity.”
