2024 Electric Yard Care Promotion
Newsletter
Spruce Up Your Garden with Electric Tools
Gasoline-powered yard care equipment is noisy, polluting, and puts our health at risk. However, transitioning to electric tools can benefit you in more ways than just making your yard look better.
According to the California Air Resources Board, using a gas lawn mower for an hour emits as many pollutants as a car driving for four hours, or about 300 miles. A leaf blower is even worse, emitting as much pollution as a 1,100-mile journey in just one hour of use.
Consider sprucing up your garden with electric yard care equipment instead. You can enjoy the same power as traditional gas-powered tools while benefiting from quieter operation, easier maintenance, and zero direct emissions. To help with the switch, SVCE offers $50 off of electric lawn mowers, leaf blowers, chainsaws and trimmers (weed whackers) through the Appliances Assistant.

Using a gas-powered lawn mower for one hour is equivalent to driving a gas car for 300 miles! Even worse, using a gas-powered leaf blower leaf blower for one hour is equivalent to driving a gas car for 1,100 miles.

Prepare Yourself for Flex Alerts This Summer
When summer heat and extreme weather events arise, the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) – the organization that manages the electric grid, may issue a Flex Alert. A Flex Alert is a voluntary call for energy conservation and typically occurs in the evening hours when solar production fades and consumers return home and switch on air conditioners, lights, and appliances.
To help prevent energy shortages, sign up to receive Flex Alert notifications directly from CAISO and you’ll stay informed about when energy conservation is needed during hot summer days. Additionally, you’ll learn valuable tips on how to conserve energy effectively during these critical times.
To receive bill credits for reducing energy use during Flex Alerts, participate in the Power Saver Rewards Program. The Power Saver Rewards Program is a free, voluntary program that rewards participants for temporarily conserving energy when the demand for electricity is high.
Learn more about this summer’s energy outlook from Silicon Valley Clean Energy, our local electricity provider: svcleanenergy.org/2024/06/26/2024-summer-forecast/
