Sunnyvale and Los Altos representatives elected as Board leadership
Sunnyvale, CA — The Board of Directors of local electricity provider, Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE), elected Sunnyvale Mayor Larry Klein as Chair and Los Altos Mayor Sally Meadows as Vice Chair for one-year terms. Thirteen elected officials are appointed to serve on the SVCE Board and are committed to bringing clean, affordable, and reliable energy to Silicon Valley communities.
Chair Larry Klein was appointed to the SVCE Board of Directors in 2021 as an Alternate Director and has been Sunnyvale’s primary director since 2022. In 2025, Klein served as Vice Chair of the Board as well as Chair of the Nominating Committee. Chair Klein has sat on the Executive Committee since 2023 and chaired the committee in 2024.
The City of Sunnyvale has been a local and national leader in sustainability policies. Chair Klein’s experience leading the largest city in the SVCE service area offers an opportunity to continue leveraging Silicon Valley’s innovation and technology sector to find local solutions to decarbonization.
Chair Klein was recently appointed to the U.S. Conference of Mayors Tech and Innovation Committee as Vice Chair, where he works on policy issues around data centers and energy use among other topics. Chair Klein is also active at the regional, state, and federal levels as a Past President and Executive Committee member of the Cities Association of Santa Clara County, and engagement with the California League of Cities and National League of Cities. His leadership comes at an opportune time as the agency approaches nearly a decade of serving the community.
“I’m honored to serve as Chair and will continue to champion the great work SVCE is doing to meet our communities where they are,” said Chair Klein. “I look forward to another year of meaningful, innovative collaboration with SVCE staff and leadership and the thirteen Silicon Valley communities we serve.”
Vice Chair Sally Meadows joined the SVCE Board of Directors as an alternate in 2021 and became the Los Altos primary director in 2023. In 2023, Vice Chair Meadows served as Vice Chair of the Finance and Administration Committee and has been on the Executive Committee since 2024, holding the Vice Chair position in 2025.
Vice Chair Meadows has championed environmental policies in the City of Los Altos, which have goals that are aligned with the mission of SVCE to reduce local emissions. Recently, this includes voting in favor of a city-specific rebate for heat pump heating and cooling and water heating equipment that stacks with SVCE rebates.
“SVCE, as a mission-driven public agency, is uniquely positioned to advocate for our communities while making significant progress toward a cleaner, safer future,” said Vice Chair Meadows. “I am eager to support impactful initiatives to advance both of these efforts.”
Board meetings are open to the public and held on the second Wednesday of each month. For more information about SVCE board meetings, visit: svcleanenergy.org/board-meetings.
