How It Works
You can receive your Silicon Valley Clean Energy EV Rebate in one of two ways:
Option 1: Receive your rebate immediately at the time of purchase
- Purchase or lease your EV at a participating dealership. The dealership will verify your eligibility for the EV rebate onsite and handle all paperwork.
- Receive your rebate as a point-of-sale discount on your purchase.
For dealerships: Submit dealer reimbursement here.
Option 2: Apply for the rebate after purchase
- Purchase or lease your EV from any licensed dealer or online retailer* on or after Oct 1, 2024.
- Complete this reimbursement form within 120 days of the purchase or lease date.
- If approved, you will receive your rebate by check in the mail within approximately 4 weeks.
*Private vehicle sales are NOT eligible (e.g. Craigslist, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, etc.).
Who’s Eligible?
To be eligible for the Silicon Valley Clean Energy EV Rebate, you must meet ALL criteria below:
- Be a Silicon Valley Clean Energy customer (as indicated on your PG&E bill).
- Purchase the vehicle for personal use only, not for resale.
- Register your vehicle with the DMV with the address linked to your PG&E account.
- Meet income qualifying criteria from either Option 1 or Option 2 below:

*Household Size includes all individuals, including the rebate applicant, who reside in a housing unit. This may consist of a single family, one person living alone, two or more families living together, or any related or unrelated groups of who share living arrangements. These income limits are set at 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for Santa Clara County, as determined by the Department of Housing and Community Development’s State Income Limits.

- Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (Tribal TANF)
- Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) or Property Voucher (PBV) program (Section 8)
Stack $10,000 in Additional EV Incentives!
You may be eligible for over $10,000 when you combine additional federal and regional EV incentives, including:
- Up to $7,500 federal tax credit for the purchase or lease of a new EV,
- Up to $4,000 federal tax credit for the purchase or lease of a pre-owned EV,
- $4,000 PG&E rebate for a pre-owned EV (if you are eligible for the SVCE EV Rebate, you are also income-eligible for this PG&E rebate),
- $700 PG&E rebate for an eligible EV charger

To be eligible for the SVCE EV Rebate, you must be an SVCE customer and meet the income-qualifying criteria.
- Participating dealerships verify that your address is within SVCE service territory to confirm you are a customer.
- You must sign a Participant Agreement, confirming that you meet income eligibility.
Rebate recipients may be selected for a post-purchase audit and required to repay the rebate if they are unable to provide proof of address or income when requested.
When submitting a post-purchase rebate claim, you will be able to submit your proof of income eligibility in one of three ways:
1. CARE or FERA Enrollment – Provide your PG&E account number if you are a participant in the California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) or Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) programs.
2. Income-Qualified Program Enrollment – As an alternative, submit a copy of the most recent award letters, acceptance letters, or notice of action from one of the following programs:
- Energy Savings Assistance Program (ESA)
- Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
- Clean Cars for All (CC4A)
- Clipper START
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance or Financial Assistance and Social Services (FASS)
- CalFresh/SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
- Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI)
- Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
- CalWORKs Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
- Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (Tribal TANF)

3. Income Sources – As an alternative, submit:
- Copy of most recent Federal tax filing (Form 1040) with all schedules, including W2s and 1099s.
- Copy of most recent Award or Notice OR Copy of Checks for SSA (Federal) Social Security Administration within the past 12 months only if tax returns are not available.
The vehicle must be:
- An Electric Vehicle (EV) or Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)*
- A highway capable, four-wheeled passenger vehicle
- A 2010 model year or newer
- Purchased or leased at a participating dealership (for Point-of-Sale Rebate) or with a licensed dealer or online retailer (for Post-Purchase Rebate). Private vehicle sales do not qualify.
- Purchased or leased on or after October 1, 2024.
*EVs are fully electric and powered exclusively by a battery, with no use of gasoline.
PHEVs use both gasoline and electricity, equipped with both a gas tank and a charging port.
Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and gas hybrids without a plug-in option are not eligible.
For vehicles purchased or leased on or after October 1, 2024, you can complete this Reimbursement Form within 120 days of purchase from any licensed dealer or retailer. Please note that private vehicle sales are NOT eligible (e.g. Craigslist, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, etc.).
- For the Silicon Valley Clean Energy EV Rebate, you can purchase a vehicle at any price. We do not have any maximum purchase price as of October 1, 2024.
- The federal tax credit requires used vehicles to be under $25,000. If you purchase an eligible used vehicle and qualify for the Used Clean Vehicle Credit, you can combine the tax credit with the SVCE EV Rebate.
- Total possible savings: $6,000 (Used Clean Vehicle Tax Credits + SVCE EV Rebate)
- The federal tax credits require new vehicles to be under: $80,000 for vans, sport utility vehicles, and pickup trucks, and $55,000 for other vehicles. If you purchase an eligible new vehicle, and qualify for the New Clean Vehicle Credit, you can combine the tax credit with the SVCE EV Rebate.
- Total possible savings: $9,500 (New Vehicle Tax Credit + SVCE EV Rebate)

Yes, there is currently no limit to the number of EV rebates per household. However, individuals are only eligible for one rebate within a three-year period.
