Building Electrification and Decarbonization

Prior to selected Silicon Valley Clean Energy Board of Directors meetings, special workshops are scheduled for presentation and discussion on strategic topics related to advancing the use of clean energy in our community. These workshops are open to the public.

The topic of this workshop will be building electrification, and will be presented by David Kaneda, leading green building architect and engineer:

‘Are We Ready for Building Electrification and Decarbonization?’

David’s presentation will cover the following topics –

  • Evolving building energy landscape
  • Key attributes and examples of ‘all electric’ buildings – residential and commercial
  • Key barriers/challenges for taking building electrification to the next level
  • The role of local building ordinances/standards/incentives – as a major way to ‘move the needle’ toward building electrification
  • Future considerations for building electrification/decarbonization

David Kaneda, PE, Eur Ing, FAIA, LEED Fellow

David is a Principal and Thought Leader at the Integral Group. He has a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering and an MBA, and is a professional engineer, Fellow in the American Institute of Architects, LEED Fellow and European Engineer with over 30 years of experience designing electrical systems for buildings.

David is a leader in advancing cutting edge, innovative, sustainable electrical, lighting, daylighting, renewable energy, energy storage, and smart building systems in buildings. His team uses innovative thinking, research and advanced technologies, to develop state of the art, high efficiency, environmentally sound solutions. He advises the federal government as a GSA – Peer Professional and a member of GSA’s – Green Building Committee and co-chaired the GSA Net Zero Energy Task Group as well as several California state agencies. He is a member of the AIA California Council’s Committee on the Environment and was a Planning Commissioner for the City of Cupertino. This work helps him to see the bigger picture and provide another layer of technical expertise, allowing his clients to stay on top of the latest developments in this rapidly evolving industry.
