Contractor Training Offerings

Silicon Valley Clean Energy is excited to offer resources and incentive opportunities for contractors through the Contractor Training Program! The program offers:

  • Training Incentive – Earn $500 for completing the online training course
  • Collaboration Bonus – Earn $500 for each electrification appliance you install for SVCE customers, up to $5,000 a year
  • Installation Incentive – Receive up to $5,000 for installing electric appliances in your own home or business within SVCE’s service area

Contractor Training Incentive

Take our online course and get paid $500. Our course will teach you the latest in all-electric building practices to prepare you to serve the growing demand for all-electric technologies. Training can be completed within 4 hours, from the comfort of your own home or anywhere!

How it Works:

(1) Make sure you are eligible.
You must reside in Santa Clara County, hold one of these licenses in Santa Clara County or hold a union membership in Santa Clara County

  • General Contractor
  • Solar Installers (C-46)
  • Electrician (C-10)
  • Plumber (C-36)
  • Warm-Air Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning Contractor (C-20)

Alternatively, you can be employed or hold an apprenticeship by a business that meets the criteria above, but you’ll have to show proof of employment.

(2) Complete the Application below and check out our Participant Agreement.
Please complete the form below to apply to participate in the training. Currently, participation in this course is limited to 150 contractors on a first-come-first-served basis. After 1-2 business days after completing the form, you will receive an email with your participation status and next steps.

(3) Receive your login information via email within a few days and login here.

(4) Complete the course

(5) Receive your $500 incentive by completing the Claim Form that we will send you via email.

Contractor Collaboration Bonus

Once you’ve completed the training course, you’ll be automatically enrolled in our Collaboration Bonus! Contractors that refer customers to the SVCE Home Rebates program can earn $500 for each rebated heat pump water heater and $500 for each heat pump HVAC installed in an eligible customer’s home. You can earn up to 10 Bonuses each year for a total of $5,000 per year. To learn more about rebate information for your customers, please visit the Home Rebates page.

How it Works:

(1) Make sure you are eligible by having already received the Training Incentive and check out our Participant Agreement.

(2) Complete a heat pump water heater and/or a heat pump HVAC installation (you can get $500 for each) in a SVCE residential customer’s home and encourage them to apply for the Home Rebates (the Rebate Application must be approved before the installation takes places, and you can earn the Collaboration Bonus).

(3) Complete the Claim Form that we will send you via email. The Claim Form will be sent to the email address that was used to enroll in the training course.

(4) Receive $500 for each appliance installed up to $5,000 for each calendar year.

$5,000 in Installation Incentives

Once you’ve completed the training course and received your $500 incentive, you will also be eligible for special Installation Incentives, up to $5,000, for installing electrification appliances at your home or business within SVCE’s service area. SVCE’s service area includes: Campbell, Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Los Gatos, Milpitas, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, Mountain View, Saratoga, Sunnyvale and unincorporated communities in Santa Clara County.

Module 1: Course Overview

Receive an overview of the motivations behind fuel switching in the past and present. In this topic, we will discuss how all-electric technologies are cleaner, safer and more economical.

Module 2: All-Electric Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning

Learn about the latest information on all-electric space heating and cool products exploring the history of heat pumps, technical innovations and installation best practices and pricing.

Module 3: Heat Pump Water Heating

Get current information on heat pump water heaters, their benefits, overviews of the history and different product types. Explore best practices for installations and prices.

Module 4: All-Electric Home Appliances

Become familiar with the benefits and options of the latest all-electric appliances for cooking, laundry, landscaping and pool heating.

Module 5: Home Solar+Battery Storage

Dive into all things solar+battery storage. This course provides the history, benefits, comparison and best practices for solar, home battery storage and energy management.

Training Incentive FAQs

After completing the application, we will check the CA Contractor State License Board website to ensure you are licensed. Please give us one business day to get back to you with an email. If you are eligible, the email will include next steps.

At this time, the course is only open to licensed contractors, journeypersons , and apprentices who meet the current eligibility. SVCE may expand eligibility at a later time.

There is also an option to turn on closed-captioning for additional accessibility.

On average, it takes four hours to complete the course. The course is entirely self-paced, and participants may stop, save, and come back to the course at any time. There is four total hours of video content plus quizzes and a final test.

In order to pass, participants must pass each final module test with a score of 70% or higher. There are five module tests and participants get three attempts to get 70% per test.

If you do not receive a score of 70% or higher on the third attempt of a given quiz please reach out to the FutureFit Fundamentals Team at SVCEPrograms@smud.org in order to move forward with the course.

Yes, upon course completion, you will receive a PDF of the Certificate of Completion from Silicon Valley Clean Energy

At this time, the course is not eligible for continuing education credits.

Collaboration Bonus FAQs

If you have completed our Contractor Training course and received a Training Incentive, you are eligible to receive the Collaboration Bonus. If you haven’t completed the training, please do that first. If you need any help, please email us at SVCEPrograms@smud.org .

After your customer submits a Claim Form for Home Rebates, we will send you a pre-filled Claim Form. Simply verify your information and sign the document. Once we receive that back from you, we will send you your bonus.

Yes! If you install a Heat Pump Water Heater (HPWH) and a Heat Pump Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning system (HP HVAC) at the same home, you can receive two bonuses, or $1,000, for that one project.

Yes. You can receive up to $5,000 per calendar year (January 1 – December 31). For each eligible piece of installed equipment, you will receive $500. Once you have received $5,000 (10 projects max) in a calendar year, you won’t be eligible to receive another bonus until the following year. There is no process to reapply for the Collaboration Bonus it will restart automatically at the start of the calendar year.

Yes, once you complete the Contractor Training, you are eligible indefinitely for as long as funding remains.

Yes, once your customer submits their Home Rebates Claim Form and we approve it, we will send you a Claim Form for you to review and sign.

No, previously completed projects aren’t eligible. If the project is currently in progress and the Home Rebates participant hasn’t submitted their Claim Form yet, then you can receive a Collaboration Bonus.

After you have reviewed and signed your Claim Form, please allow three-to-four weeks to receive your Collaboration Bonus, which will be sent via check from Silicon Valley Clean Energy.

Installation Incentive FAQs

Yes, the address where you are installing the new equipment must receive service from Silicon Valley Clean Energy. Please visit this link to see SVCE’s service area: https://svcleanenergy.org/service-area/ .

Yes, as long as both properties are receiving service from SVCE, you can receive Contractor Training rebates for each, up to $5,000 total for both your home and your business.

Yes, you can combine SVCE’s Contractor Training Installation Incentive with rebates from other non-SVCE programs.

No, you are not able to receive both a Contractor Training Installation Incentive and Home Rebates for the same project at your home.

No, you cannot get a Contractor Training Rebate for new construction where most rebated appliances and equipment are required by Building Code.
