SV Clean Energy Adds Director of Regulatory and Legislative Policy

Melicia Charles brings extensive public-private experience to expanded policy team

Sunnyvale, Calif. – Melicia Charles has joined Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) as Director of Regulatory and Legislative Policy. Melicia’s energy industry experience includes senior roles with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and Sunrun, a leading player in the commercial solar industry.

The Director of Regulatory and Legislative Policy will lead the SVCE regulatory and legislative team on statewide policy matters. Melicia will work with local and state representatives and SVCE board members to ensure that the community’s top clean energy and decarbonization goals are being prioritized at a state level.

“I am thrilled to join the Community Choice Energy movement as local agencies, like SV Clean Energy, are leading the state toward meeting its climate goals,” said Charles. “I grew up in Silicon Valley, therefore I am particularly excited to join an organization that is focused on innovative clean energy solutions that serve this community.”

Charles previously served as the Director of Public Policy at Sunrun where she advocated for solar and energy storage before state regulators and legislators. Prior to Sunrun, Charles was at the CPUC for over a decade. During this time, she served as an advisor and chief of staff to two commissioners, as well as managed teams within the CPUC Energy Division. Charles holds an MBA from the University of San Francisco and a BA from the University of California, Berkeley.
